Help at home

The "Help at Home" is one of the most important social programs was piloted in March 1998 and the enormous impact on the local community was "institution" and continues until today the continued provision of primary care in Greece. The "Help at Home" program is aimed at seniors who do not look after themselves fully and people with mobility difficulties and problems, with priority those who live alone or do not have a complete family care or whose income does not allow them to provide the necessary services to improve their quality of life. The program aims to improve the quality of life of elderly people and people with mobility difficulties or other problems (PWD), the facilitation of independent and dignified living, support a family environment in the recipient and the promotion of the employment of competent and skilled staff. The program provides counseling and psychological support, nursing care, family assistance and companionship. The smooth operation of the program is provided by a specialized and well organized team of 4 people in each structure consists of a social worker, a nurse and two family helpers. Each team is supported by a doctor who provides general medical services and advice where necessary. The social worker program has the overall supervision of the beneficiaries, assessing the facts, providing social support, coming in contact with co-actors and referring cases not related to the services of the program. The benefit served in primary health care services provided by nurse program and relating to home visits for measuring and recording vital signs, prescription drugs and hospital accompaniment for scheduled exams. At the same time, family assistant program also deal with external operations, supply the elderly with emergency items, and the cleanliness of their home. An additional responsibility of family care, perhaps the most important for these people, it is the company offering proving its social character of the program.
